Diggin’ Up Dinosaurs

My sister was recently in town for a visit. She always has great activities that she does with her daughter (Georgia) and happened to bring one along with her that I just had to write about.

Spencer and Georgia always have a great time playing together but they have very different personalities. Georgia is more methodical and sensitive, whereas Spencer is a carefree spirit that does things as quick as possible. I must say, this activity was great for both of them!

When we told both kids that they were about to dig up a dinosaur, they were very excited to get started. I must admit, I was just as excited as them!

The dinosaur kit is made by Smithsonian. In the box you’ll find all of the tools you’ll (mallet, chisel) need including protective eyewear ….MINISIZED!

Smaller children may need you to show them to how chip away at the rock. Once they know how to do it on their own, they can’t wait to find their hidden treasure.

Spencer took his mallet to town eagerly trying to find his dinosaur; whereas, Georgia slowly and methodically chipped away at her rock.

In the end, the kids had a great time searching for their dinosaurs. The best thing about this activity is that in the end, they are left with a little dino to play with.

This activity is recommended for children older than three years. I did it with Spencer and he enjoyed it. Adult supervision is needed for young children.

The dinosaur kit can be found here and here.
