The Mom Essential

I hate to admit it but I’m not really a purse person. I love purses and love buying them but to be honest, I don’t use them all that much.

Before Spencer was born, I researched different types of diaper bags as I wanted to get the “perfect” one. I found one that I liked but when reality hit, I didn’t like carrying around a big bag filled with more stuff than we could ever possibly use.

I was on the lookout for a versatile bag, one that could be used as a diaper bag and one that I could use for myself (without all the kid necessities).

Spencer is a runner. He comes by it honestly, as David is an elite runner himself. I cannot count how many times Spencer and I have been out and I’ve had to run after him as he’s bolted to go see something interesting that he’s found. So, not only did I need a bag that was versatile but one that also allowed me to be hands-free.

The “diaper bag” that I have is a medium-sized faux leather backpack with gold detailing. The fact that it is leather allows me to quickly wipe off anything it may come in contact with and the gold detailing adds a bit of flair without saying “this is a diaper bag”. It is also medium-sized which allows me to carry diapers, wipes, snacks, and everything else that we need for an outing. I love the extra front pocket where I can separate my items from the kids’ and allows for quick, easy access. Being able to throw it on and literally run around with the kids is a huge bonus. Although I’m never really hands free, this backpack allows me to carry all of the things that my kids and I need during a day out.

This is one of the best purchases I’ve made. I found mine at Winners at a reasonable price but I wouldn’t hesitate to splurge a bit more on a backpack as I’ve made so much use out of it.

I’ve linked some backpacks below at various price points.
